Storheim's Frozen Custard was started by Ray and Linda Kern in 1984. The Kern family thought that if they were willing to drive the four hour round trip to their favorite frozen custard stand in Milwaukee, maybe the people of Green Bay would be willing to drive across town. Fortunately you were willing to give us a chance. The first store was located at 108 Oakland Avenue, and offered an eye opening expereince for two people who had never worked in the restaurant business. Ray spent most of the next winter working to enclose the front of the store. It had been built as a walk-up restaurant that was only open seasonally. Storheim's stayed open all year around. The new lobby was much more customer friendly, especially during bad weather. The next year Storheim's opened its second location at 1860 w Mason Street. For twenty four years this has been the most popular location due to the ease of access, great food and friendly service. 1999 and 2000 saw the addition to the building which allowed for our extremely popular drive-thru. Rain or shine, the drive-thru allows customers to get their food and go without having to brave the weather. This works well in the fast paced Green Bay market. On October 1st 2000 Nate Kern bought this location from Ray and Linda Kern. While other owners have significantly changed their business to something no longer recognized as Storheim's, Ray's legacy can still be seen and tasted here. We keep experimenting with new flavors to offer you even more choices for your current favorite flavor. Though Ray Kern went home to his Lord on January 2, 2006, we continue to follow the principles and standards he developed in his years of nurturing Storheim's. It is our pleasure to serve you, we look forward to your next visit! |
